A RYEDALE stables has raised £1,500 at a Yorkshire Air Ambulance fundraiser, with games ranging from welly-wanging to hula-hoops.

Friars Hill Stables, in Sinnington, decided to hold the sporting challenge fundraiser after proprietor Alison Brown had a flight to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough in the helicopter earlier in the year following an accident.

The competition, billed as "an evening of fun, games and sporting adventures for all with no horses involved whatsoever", was open to anyone who rides at Friars Hill, including riding school clients, Pony Club members, riding club members, livery owners and their family members.

There were 20 teams of four, with a large selection of challenges to get stuck into, including making the best air ambulance helicopter with only newspapers and sticky tape, a cross-country course with fences, water complex, skipping, hula-hoops and sack race incorporated, quizzes, welly-wanging, polocrosse, ball accuracy games and guess-what's-in-the-bowl games.

The winning team was Corde Cooper, Tony Cass, Sue Miller and Tilly Gospel.

A stables spokesman said: "Team Friars Hill would like to thank every single person who helped, gave so generously and came along.

"We raised £1,500 having good old-fashioned fun mucking about in a field, getting a bit messy and having a laugh – not a bad night at all."
