A FASCINATING look at how streets looked in Norton more than 100 years ago is provided by these photos, alongside those of the present-day town.

The old photographs were provided by the Woodhams Stone Collection, which was formed in 2011 to secure the future of two significant local history collections for the communities of Malton and Norton-upon-Derwent.

Sid Woodhams has spent more than 60 years collecting material from local businesses and tradesmen. He has also acquired many household items and other objects that reflect local and national events.

John Stone has collected hundreds of postcards and photographs of the local area. He has also built-up a large paper-based archive, including public notices, advertisements and material relating to local businesses. Together these collections are a valuable resource for tracing the history of Norton, Malton and the surrounding area.

Artefacts and information from the collection are currently on tour visiting libraries across Ryedale.

The tour dates are Norton Library, to September 29, Pickering Library, October 6 to December 15, Kirkbymoorside Library, January 10 to March 8, and Helmsley Library, March 16 to June 8.
