There was a spate of minor accidents and crashes yesterday afternoon when the bad weather hit.
Police from York and Ryedale were called to a number of accidents, from mid afternoon and long into the evening rush hour, and said while there had been no serious collisions the call-outs showed many drivers had been caught unawares by the winter weather and icy roads.
One car ended up on its roof after an accident on the A64 Malton bypass at around 2.40pm, police said, while later in the afternoon they were called to at least six accidents on the B1257 around Hovingham.
Although no one was seriously hurt, some drivers and passengers were reported to have minor injuries.
Around York, tailbacks developed for drivers heading eastbound on the A64 around the Fulford Road A19 junction at around 5.45pm; and two cars were involved in a collision on the ring road near Clifton Moor at about 5.40pm, but no one was injured.
