KIRKBYMOORSIDE History Group will launch its latest book at a special exhibition at the town's Moorside Room next week.

Entitled A Moorside Minglement, the book is a collection of six stories all with a basis in the town's history along with some from further afield.

Louise Mudd, from the group, said there were two love stories, both with a twist.

"One featured on the Antiques Roadshow, the other only came to light when a chance discovery of hidden letters led to uncovering a great story of both parties," she said.

"We have also included the story of Kirkby's painting postman - Fred Maw. A recent display of his uniquely styled paintings was held in May 2014 in aid of All Saints Church and his work was met with great interest both locally and in the States.

"As is so often the case, the interest in his paintings came after his death in 2007. We have also included a chapter on the appeal to bring Kirkbymoorside resident Colin Woof home for burial and the community's response to our appeal for help which will bring that to a nice close."

A display and launch of A Moorside Minglement will take place at the Moorside Room on Wednesday, August 5, from 9am to 4pm and 5pm to 7pm.
