A COUPLE who share a love of art have celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Colin and Rosalind Wicks met at Kingston School of Art where she was studying sculpture and he was a fine art student.

They married in Surbiton, Surrey, on August 30, 1955, and moved to Fulford where Colin was training as a psychiatric nurse as part of his National Service.

Colin, who is 81, then took up a post at Hatfield School in Hertfordshire, where he taught for three years before taking up the position of head of art at Norton School in 1963.

The couple moved to Rillington and Colin remained at the school until he retired in 1990.

Rosalind, 82, also taught at Norton School for a short time before giving up work to look after their six children, four boys and two girls.

Their enjoyment of art has continued with Rosalind well-known as a designer of postcards with a postbox theme.

Colin is involved in a number of community groups and helped secure the old Rillington Primary School as a village hall and provide a play area for local youngsters. He is also a volunteer at Scampston Walled Garden.

The couple also enjoy cycling and completed the coast to coast route for Colin's 70th birthday.

To celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary, Colin and Rosalind are hosting a family lunch with their children and 11 grandchildren, along with one of Colin's brothers, who is travelling over from New Zealand.

Colin said: "We are very lucky to have six children who are all happily married as well. We have had a very enjoyable 60 years and been well-blessed. We have always shared everything - it has been a partnership all the way."
