ACTOR James Norton has given his backing to next month's NSPCC Christmas Fair at Castle Howard.

James, who grew up near Malton, announced his support for the fair, which takes place from Thursday, November 5 to Saturday, November 7.

“As a child, I remember going to many NSPCC events in Ryedale with my family,” said the Happy Valley and Grantchester TV star. "It's a fantastic charity.

"Through supporting the NSPCC Christmas Fair at Castle Howard, I hope I can help towards making a small difference by raising awareness of this wonderful fundraising event, and urge people to go along and make it another successful year for the charity.

"I grew up near Castle Howard and have many happy memories of wandering around the grounds, and visiting the fabulous adventure playground.

"Castle Howard is a wonderful backdrop for a Christmas Fair and I wish the NSPCC every success in holding its last fair there before moving to its new home at Duncombe Park, Helmsley in 2016.”

The NSPCC Christmas Fair broke its fundraising record in 2014 by raising more than £55,000.

Tickets cost £15 for the Thursday preview evening, including wine and canapes, and £8 for the other days.
