PUPILS at Leavening Primary School have helped create a new menu based on their favourite food.

The school's office manager Claire Mortimer designed and collated a survey enabling parents and children to have their say on how they would like to improve the catering provision.

She said: "After collating all the responses, we designed a new menu based on the children's favourite meals and gave them more choice.

"We also got rid of the old style trays and replaced them with bright and colourful plates and bowls and introduced a healthy tuck shop at morning break serving bagels, toast and drinks."

Mrs Mortimer said she had been helped by the school cook Shirley Crossley, and midday supervisors, Anne Marshall, Anoushka Farnhill, Debbie Cook and Nancy Spencer.

"The children have been very positive in their comments on the new provision," she said. "In the summer holidays we hope to complete the transformation with a kitchen refurbishment, including a new dishwasher and more work space for our hardworking cook."
