AN annual “posh shop” will be popping up in Malton today to raise funds for charity.

Malton and Norton Rotary Club is organising the charity shop for the sixth year at 36-38 Market Street. The shop will be run by Friends of the Rotary, members of which volunteer to run it during its three-week slot, which begins today.

Keith Gibbeson, president of Malton and Norton Rotary Club, said: “The Rotary Club is very grateful to the Fitzwilliam Estate in allowing us to use their shop facility for this year’s fundraising efforts.

"The shop will be open from 10am to 4pm each day and we are hoping to add to the coffers during its three-week opening. In the past years the Friends have raised more than £20,000, all of which goes to local and international charities.”

Malton & Norton Rotary Club was formed in 1946, with the aim of putting something back into the community at the same time making new friends and enjoying a varied social life.

Tom Storrar, Fitzwilliam assistant estate manager, said he was delighted to support an organisation such as the Rotary Club.

“The premises at 36-38 Market Place, with its highly prominent location, offers excellent sales and storage space and will be an ideal venue for the Rotary 'Posh Shop'. We wish them every success in their fundraising.”
