MORE than 100 students from Norton College spent the last week of term in the workplace.
The Year 10 pupils took part in placements at a local organisation or business to give them a taste of working life.
This year’s placements include working alongside software engineers, joiners, vets, stable owners, mechanics, pharmacists, teachers, scientists, artists, childminders, farmers, sports coaches and solicitors.
Cassie Smith, who went to Sherburn Primary School, said she had really enjoying working with the infants.
Tina Dobson, teaching assistant for Key Stage 1, said: “Everyone is very pleased with Cassie’s work and her attitude to the work she does. I know Cassie is really enjoying working with the pupils and shows a very calm and mature way of working.”
Ronan Fenwick spent his week at Norton Joinery and also really enjoyed it. He is also thinking about joinery as a career.
Stuart Jackson, his supervisor, said: “Ronan has made a great start. He is a very efficient worker and he just gets on with a task with minimal supervision.”
Kerry Megginson, Year 10 work experience co-ordinator, said: “We are always very grateful to employers who take on our students as we understand the real effort and time it takes to give each of them a programme which is appropriate and meaningful. Every year feedback from employers and students is very positive.”
