A PUB is hosting its first gin festival over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Jolly Farmers in Leavening decided to hold the event, which runs from Friday to Monday, after seeing the increasingly popularity of the drink.

Emma Cansick, from the pub, said they had already ran a "gin of the week" and decided to expand it to a three-day festival.

"Gin is very popular in our pub and I have a passion for different and exciting gins so we decided to run our own festival," she said.

"As part of the festival we will have 28 gins, including eight from the North East, on alcohol free juniper cordial and a traditional Jenever."

Emma said they would also have three masterclasses with the distillers - The Lakes Gin, Masons and Sloemotion.

"We have live music on Saturday from the Ermine Street band and Ellie Coast on Sunday," she said.

"We also have a fantastic gin and tonic hamper donated by Fever Tree that we will be selling raffle tickets for."
