One of the country's most popular poets has described Pickering as one of his favourite towns.
Ian McMillan the Yorkshire-born poet and performer tweeted that he has just spent a 'wonderful' week in Pickering.
He said: "Had a wonderful week in Pickering, one of my favourite Yorkshire towns. We strolled, sat, ate well in Figaros, Spice4U and Cappelman’s and the brilliant Botham’s Tea Shop. And there was the daily miracle of Reed’s paper shop open at 05.30 with papers ready! We’ll be back!"
Ian is also a playwright, journalist and has been described by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy as “world-class – one of today’s greatest poetry performers”.
