BOTTOM-PLACED Sheriff Hutton were dismissed for only 80 at Dringhouses and went on to lose by just two wickets which is likely to confirm their relegation from division two north.

George Wilson poached a fine 6-32 for the winners before team-mate Tom Owen struck an important 30 as Chris Gartland claimed an unrewarded 5-25.

Hovingham boosted their chances of retaining division two status when they had the better of a draw with top placed Osbaldwick whose ten-point reward was enough to ensure their divisional title.

There were three good innings in Hovingham’s 203-5 with Stuart Prest making 66, Richard Bowling 42 and Paul Deverill an unbeaten 36.

When Osbaldwick responded, Rich Bowling claimed 3-30 and Simon Mosey took 3-47 but the batting of Rich Carew 63 and Andy Hall with 28 saw Osbaldwick to a draw at 158-8.

Ripon’s hopes of making a promotion place were ended when they lost by three wickets to Woodhouse Grange II.

Rob Taylor made 44 and Graham Bassitt 45no but Ripon’s 141-6 was not a major target. Chris Suddaby responded with 65 and A Cattle made 26 to nullify the 3-16 return claimed by Tom Leeming.

Batting first at York, Pocklington totalled 196-8 as Richard Readman made 33, Neil Readman 38 and Neal Jackson 42.

York then followed with 154-9 as Alex Downey claimed 4-41. K Ahmed made a defiant 51 to help his side earn a draw.

In division two south, Hornsea’s prolific batsmen were again in free-scoring mood when they rattled up a total of 292-6 at second-placed Acomb and went on to win by 131 runs.

Doug Griebenhouw underlined his position as the League’s highest scoring batsman by hitting 80 while there were other half-centuries from Paul Johnson with 51 and Richard Medforth who made 59. Paul Downey claimed 3-67.

Acomb’s reply totalled 161 with Griebenhouw claiming 3-33 but the notable factor was a knock of 105 by Acomb’s James Fletcher.

Carlton Towers are looking like relegation candidates after losing at home to Beverley Town by 153 runs.

There were good knocks from Paul Best with 48, Iain Gillyon 30, Richard Riley 57 and J Emery who made 42 in a total of 215 as mark Holmes took 3-31.

The Towers response was a disappointing 62 as Kieron Thompson took 4-11 and Emery completed a good day with 3-19.

There was another drawn game at Driffield, where Clifton Alliance had the edge after making 204-5 with Harry Bradley on 42, Matt Phillips 42, Andy Wray 36no and Jack Harmson 37 all making good runs.

Their batting prowess was almost matched by Driffield.

Their 186-7 included an unbeaten 85 by Ben Lawrence abetted by Johnny Addy’s 39.

But a 5-50 stint by John Thornton kept the advantage with the Clifton side.

J Critchley hit 87, Stewart Guy made 67 and M Dixon 38 as Patrington reached 280-7 against Welton & Brough whose Ashley Page captured 3-29.

Adam Boasman responded with 59, while Graham Copley added 49 as Ian Buss’s 2-5 reduced Welton to 189-5.
