SCARBOROUGH Athletic dropped out of the play-off picture in Evo-Stik League division one north after their game at AFC Farsley on Saturday was postponed owing to a frozen pitch.

Teams around them picked up points, leaving the Seadogs now in seventh.

Ten teams appear to be in the play-off shake-up and, with those sides having played anything from 23 to 29 games, lots of movement is likely in the coming weeks. Boro have played 26 and can leapfrog teams above them and be caught by teams below.

This coming Saturday, the Seadogs will again be on their travels when they visit mid-table Burscough (2.30pm), who sit in 15th spot after drawing 1-1 at home with Clitheroe on Saturday.

Next Tuesday, Scarborough try again to play their North Riding FA Senior Cup quarter-final against Northern League second division outfit Thornaby.

Meanwhile, Whitby Town were unlucky to lose to promotion hopefuls Buxton in the Evo-Stik premier division on Saturday after a tight end-to-end game.

The only goal of the contest, which was played in front of a crowd of 366, was scored nine minutes from time by Shaun Tuton, after he was set up by Greg Young.

The result kept the Derbyshire side in third place in the standings, albeit having played more games than the team around them.

Whitby are now 16th in the table and on Saturday they host 13th-placed Rushall Olympic (3pm), who were held to a 1-1 draw at home by lowly Marine at the weekend.

Whitby midfielder Matty Brown, the local lad in his second spell with his home-town club, has now left the Blues again, this time due to a new job in London - Saturday’s match against Buxton being his last.

Brown played a handful of pre-season games under the then manager Harry Dunn in 2010 before leaving to play college football in the USA.

He returned last summer as one of current boss Darren Williams’ first signings for the 2014-15 season.
