A HEAVY shower interrupted the afternoon session for 50 minutes at Headingley but it did not prevent Yorkshire consolidating their already strong position on the first day of the LV= County Championship Division One game against Somerset.

Having bowled the visitors out for 110 in 35 overs, Yorkshire were 46-1 at tea, Alex Lees falling lbw for ten to Craig Overton’s final ball before the interval.

Adam Lyth was 32 not out when the players came in for their second break of the day.

Earlier in the afternoon, Luke Ronchi and Tim Groenewald had added only eight runs before the rain arrived.

On the resumption, Ronchi was caught at short cover by Tim Bresnan off Jack Brooks for 25, and Jack Leach edged Steve Patterson to second slip where Lyth took his third catch of the day.

That left Groenewald unbeaten on 15 but the plaudits were reserved for Brooks, whose figures of 5-35 were his best in a first-class match for Yorkshire.
