YORKSHIRE’S preparations for the forthcoming NatWest T20 Blast suffered a setback with a heavy warm-up defeat against a Yorkshire Premier League North Select XI at York’s Clifton Park last night.

The Vikings fell to 7-4 batting first against a side which included a selection of their own players such as Karl Carver, Ben Coad, Matthew Waite and Ryan Gibson.

Will Rhodes was Yorkshire’s top-scorer with the bat as his 52 managed to get the score up to 120-9.

Gibson then anchored a successful chase, secured with eight wickets to spare, with an unbeaten 60 opening the batting.

Will’s brother Dom, who also plays at Stamford Bridge, took the first three Yorkshire wickets in only seven balls, getting Adam Lyth for a golden duck.

Rhodes reached 50 off 45 balls with a six and four fours, but he was one of two wickets to fall to Waite in the final over of the innings.

Yorkshire included England World T20 finalists Adil Rashid and Liam Plunkett in their side alongside Ashes winners Lyth and Gary Ballance.

Gibson hit Steve Patterson for three fours in the sixth over before later reaching 50 off 46 balls with a six. York’s former Woodland's batsman Duncan Snell hit 27.

The Vikings are in action at Harrogate tonight before taking on the All Rounder Cricket Bradford Premier League at Pudsey Congs on Thursday (6pm).

Meanwhile, the ECB have revealed David Willey should return from his abdominal tear for Yorkshire’s second Blast game against Worcestershire at New Road a week tomorrow.

Willey was expected to be out for up to six weeks, but his return is a fortnight ahead of schedule.
