AZEEM Rafiq and Andrew Hodd helped keep Yorkshire in with a chance of posting a respectable first-innings score against Nottinghamshire at Scarborough.

The pair shared in a stand of 132 for the seventh wicket in the County Championship contest as the Tykes took tea on 202-8.

Having been reduced to 51-6 midway through the morning session, Hodd and Rafiq brought up their 50-run partnership in just 54 deliveries.

The pair batted patiently for the most part, although Rafiq did go to his own half-century with a chipped four over mid-on's head having faced 75 balls.

Their alliance was eventually ended by Samit Patel, who trapped Rafiq lbw for 74 with the final ball of his first over after the Yorkshire man had hit 11 fours in his 92-ball knock.

Hodd – who had earlier brought up his 3,000th first-class run – went through to his 50 in 115 balls but lost Steven Patterson lbw before the interval as he became Imran Tahir's first wicket of the match.

Yorkshire had earlier lost six wickets for just 30 runs in the space of an hour before lunch, with Steven Mullaney taking three wickets and also effecting a run out after Notts captain Chris Read had opted to field first at North Marine Road.
