TITLE holders Old Malton St Mary's ended Wigginton Grasshoppers' 100 per cent start to the season in the York Minster Engineering League premier division.

Goals from Harvey Townley and Marcus Godsell secured a 2-0 victory for St Mary's, who are now fourth in the table.

Although key members of the squad were missing, Saints contained the visitors well in the first 20 minutes and soon began to exert pressure.

Townley opened the scoring from a Scott Nicholas cross after good work from Simon Cooke.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, Godsell tapped the ball past the advancing goalkeeper after being released by strike partner Danny Fogg.

It was a great team display from the home side with the standout performance coming from Cooke, who picked up the man-of-the-match award for a faultless display in defence.

This weekend Old Malton begin the defence of their York FA Saturday Senior Cup at home to Pocklington Town.

Elsewhere in the premier division, Malton & Norton hit the woodwork no fewer than seven times against Dunnington but lost 2-0 thanks to goals from Bradley Swainston and Martyn Day.

Neighbours Brooklyn lost for a sixth consecutive game against Dringhouses and remain bottom of the table with no points.

Sam Lingard gave Dringhouses a half-time lead before goals from Dave Watson (2) and Sam Drake sealed a comfortable 4-0 victory.

In division one, Kirkbymoorside suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of Harrison Signs, whose goals were scored by Neil Richardson, Warren Lowe and Neil Fryers.

Nathan Spreckley scored four times as Stamford Bridge opened their division two campaign with an emphatic 7-1 win at Fulford.

John Cavanagh and Dominic Rhodes were also on the scoresheet and Fulford scored an own goal.

In reserve 'B', James Hunt scored the consolation goal for Stamford Bridge reserves in a 5-1 defeat at F1 Racing.

Brooklyn reserves lost 9-1 against early table-toppers Tockwith and, like their first team, now sit bottom of their respective table.
